Shay Given launches National Youth Work Games
Donegal Youth Service is hosting the National Youth Work Ireland Games Competition on the 26th and 27th June 2010. The Games Competition has been running for almost 50 years and this is the first time the event has come to Donegal.
Young people from across the country will be competing in Soccer, Basketball, Unihoc, Hip Hop, Table Tennis, Table Quiz, Chess and Draughts as part of the event which will also include the annual DYS Party in the Park. Donegal will be represented by young people from Malin Head Youth Club, Muff Youth Club, Club Oige Criost Ri (Magheraroarty), Planet Youth (Ballybofey), Letterkenny Youth & Community Club, Ramelton Youth Project, Cockhill Youth Club, Doneyloop Youth Club and Fanad Youth Club.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given says, “The Games provide a great opportunity for young people to get involved in sport and other activities and to showcase their talents. It is also great to see an event of this nature coming to Donegal and is a huge boost for the County.
Shay continues, “Growing up in this county I took part in many different sports and activities and it was a really great way for me to get to meet a lot of new people and improve myself. The Youth Work Ireland national games provide young people with the opportunity to test themselves against young people from all over Ireland and to have some fun at the same time. I wish all the competitors the very best of luck.”
The Competition will involve over 400 young people who have qualified in the various categories at local and regional finals since February 2010. County Finals for Donegal took place in Boal’s Goals, Letterkenny and in Donegal Youth Service in the lead up to National Finals. Donegal Youth Service would like to thank the Aura Leisure Complex, Arena 7, Letterkenny Town Council and Ballyraine Halls for their support of the Games Competition as well as Domino’s Pizza, Foodfighters, Donegal Sports and the Radisson Blu, Letterkenny.
