Workhouse
history to life
. The museum building is formerly the Warden's House of the Letterkenny Workhouse. It’s doors opened in 1845, shortly before the Famine and it continued in use until it closed during the 1920’s.
We invite you all to come along to meet the Workhouse Master, the Matron, inmates, cooks and to hear tales of sorrow and joy inside the Workhouse.
Donegal actors, Anne Gallagher and Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhrighde and Blue Eagle Productions have produced these tours.
The tours are at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. They are free of charge and open to all. This project has been funded by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism.
Donegal County Museum is open all year round.
